Senior Summer For current 10th graders

Senior year at Med-o-lark is something special. It’s the summer you step up, lead, and leave your mark on a place that’s shaped you, while still getting all the fun, freedom, and friendship that make camp feel like home.

Leadership in Training (LIT)

Seniors become role models for our younger campers, joining cabin nights, leading get-to-know-you games, and sharing the occasional dinner with the cabins they mentor.

Seniors also take the lead on two of our biggest camp-wide events: International Day (cooking, running stations, and staying up late) and Carnival (dreaming up and running the booths). It’s a chance to take on real responsibility in a community that has your back every step of the way.

Inside camp, you’ll always be our Seniors. On a college application or résumé, this program is called LIT (Leadership in Training), meaningful experience that shows colleges and future employers what you’re capable of.

Community service hours + store credit

Every senior earns 20 community service hours and a $100 credit at the camp store.

Weekly nights out

Many of our seniors are now old enough to drive (wow!), and we think they’ve earned a little more independence. Each week, seniors head off camp to Camden, Rockland, or Augusta to shop, explore, and grab dinner together.

Counselors and drivers come along, and seniors get room to do their own thing: exploring in groups of three or more and meeting back at the van by curfew. Phones are allowed on these outings and get handed back in when we return, so camp stays the screen-free haven we all love.

Seniors will often share these nights with our Junior Counselors, who are just one year ahead.

More time to just be together

Seniors get Porch Time, a beloved Med-o-lark classic, plus a brand-new Senior Free Period on top of Chill Time and Leisure Day: dedicated time to hang out, laugh, and soak up the summer with friends.

Seniors-only day trips

Each session brings an exclusive adventure:

  • Session 1Maine Foodie Tour
  • Session 2Portland’s Old Port & Portland Museum of Art
  • Session 3Pemaquid Beach Day
  • Session 4Hiking and beach time in Acadia National Park
Leave your legacy

Seniors will leave something lasting behind. Sessions 1 & 3 Seniors design and paint a mural in a high-traffic spot at camp, one future campers will see for years.

Sessions 2 & 4 Seniors plan and host an all-camp dance.

Pre-Senior Summer New! For current 9th graders

For the first time, pre-seniors are getting privileges of their own. We’ve heard you, and next summer is going to feel different in all the best ways.

Porch Time + later curfews

We know pre-seniors want more time with friends and a chance to stay up a little later catching up. That’s why pre-seniors are now invited to Porch Time, a Med-o-lark favorite.

It’s relaxed, unstructured time (with counselors nearby) to talk, joke around, and grow friendships. Along with the A-frame, we’re opening a second hangout space just for this.

The Overnight

Sessions 2 & 4

One of Med-o-lark’s most beloved traditions now belongs to pre-seniors. The Overnight means staying up all night (or most of it!) off camp: eating, shopping, bowling, catching a movie, and just hanging out.

It ends with a sunrise hike in Camden Hills State Park, followed by a well-earned sleep-in and a day of reliving every moment. Campers call it a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Waterpark trip (new!)

Sessions 1 & 3

A pre-seniors-only excursion to a waterpark, packed with fun and a great way to bond as a group.

The Pre-Senior Surprise

Sessions 2 & 4

This one’s in your hands. Pre-seniors will dream up and lead a brand-new camp tradition, whether that’s an all-camp dance, a trivia night, a tournament, a costume contest, or something no one’s thought of yet.

It’s a real chance to build leadership skills and create something future campers will look forward to.

Got a big idea already? If you’ll be a pre-senior next summer, add your name and tell us what you’d dream up.
