As we prepare for the summer, we ask families to support us in reviewing our family handbook and completing a few required forms online.

packing
We do laundry every week at camp. As such, we recommend you pack for 7-10 days worth of clothes. If bringing any electronics such as a small fan, we recommend you opt for battery-powered devices, as outlets at camp are limited.
Please pack at least 2 shower towels and 2 sets of sheets and pillowcases.
Provided by camp: Waterfront towels and laundry bags. If your camper needs additional bedding, pillows, or towels, we have them available at camp. We sell necessities like toothpaste and deodorant in our camp store.

Transportation
There are so many ways to get to camp! Whether you arriving by car, bus, or plane, our team is here to help.
money at camp
There is no money at camp!
Instead, we recommend families add funds to a camper’s spending account, which can be used in the camp store.
The spending account can be used in the camp store to purchase items like a sweater, a toothbrush, or a pair of sweatpants. Funds can also be used to purchase souvenirs during field trips.
Amount: We recommend $50 for a 2 week session and $100 for a 4 week session.
Optional: Adding funds to your camper's account is totally optional.
Returning Funds: Whatever is not spent will be returned to you by the end of the summer. (We aim to return funds by end of October 2026). If you have less than $10 remaining on your spending account at summer-end, we will contribute it to our Camper Scholarship Fund. If you have more than $10 remaining on your account, we will give you the option to get a refund or roll it over to the next summer.

Visits outside of this window can be scheduled with our office by emailing us at welcome@medolark.com or calling us at 207-220-3530.
All camp visitors will be asked to present a photo ID. If you would like your camper to be picked up by someone other than a parent, please be sure to email us this person’s full name.
We love animals, but we ask that you leave all pets at home while visiting camp. We have campers with allergies.
If you have a friend who would like to tour Med-o-lark for a future summer, please email us at welcome@medolark.com or direct them to learn more here. We are happy to schedule a tour for them this summer.

Field trips
Our optional field trips give campers the chance to explore the beauty and adventure of Maine. From whitewater rafting and hiking in Acadia National Park to visiting charming coastal towns and local attractions, these trips are a fun way to try something new and see more of what makes Maine so special. Campers choose the trips that interest them and head out with our experienced staff for a memorable day away from camp.
cabin assignments
Cabins are primarily organized by age/grade and gender, and we intentionally balance each cabin with a mix of first-time and returning campers to help everyone feel welcomed and supported from day one. We’re happy to honor mutual friend requests when possible, while also encouraging campers to meet new people and build new friendships.
Families will receive cabin assignments by email approximately one week before camp begins, so you and your camper know what to expect ahead of arrival. We will share parent emails in that email, in the case your camper would like to keep in touch after camp. If you prefer we do not share your email, please let us know.
Once at camp, campers choose between upper and lower bunks on a first-come, first-served basis within their cabin. For nonbinary and transgender campers and counselors, cabin placement is aligned with how the camper identifies.

communication at camp
One of the greatest gifts camp offers is the chance for campers to build confidence, independence, and resilience by navigating new experiences on their own. It’s very normal for campers to be fully immersed in camp life, and sometimes that means fewer calls home. Often, no call is a good sign. It means your camper is busy creating, playing, laughing, and settling into their world at camp.
At the same time, we know how important it is for families to feel connected. Campers are welcome to call home daily during free time after the third day at camp, and families can rest assured that we’re always available if there’s ever a concern or something you need to talk through.

Campers can call home from a camp landline during designated free time after the 3rd full day at camp.
International campers: 1:30–2:00 pm ET
U.S.-based campers: 5:30–6:30 pm ET
Calls are limited to 5 minutes, helping ensure that everyone has access and that campers stay engaged in camp life.

Campers are encouraged to write letters, both old-fashioned snail mail and notes we can upload to Campanion.
Campanion is a portal for families where you can ‘email’ your camper and can also access photos of camp.
When your camper writes a letter home, we scan the letter into your Campanion family portal. This is a special way to stay connected without pulling campers out of the camp experience.

We share photos from camp six days a week, posted nightly at 8:00 pm ET. These photos offer a window into daily life at Med-o-lark.
While your camper may appear in some photos, it’s completely normal if they’re not featured every day.
We ask families to trust the process and give campers the space to explore, play, and grow. And please know: if a camper needs support, or if you ever need to reach us for any reason, our team is here and happy to connect.
signing up for activities
Campers choose their activities on the first night of camp. About a week before arrival, we’ll share the full list of activities being offered, and we encourage you to review it together so your camper can start thinking about first and second choices for each period.
We offer a wide and varied activity program, and campers will always be able to participate in activities they’re genuinely excited about while at camp.
On the first night of activity sign-ups, elementary school campers choose first, followed by middle school campers, and then high school campers. This helps our younger campers feel supported as they navigate the process for the first time.
Midway through the session (four days in), campers will choose a new set of electives or afternoon activities. For this round of sign-ups, we reverse the order: high school campers choose first, followed by middle and then elementary school campers.
Activities are generally mixed-age, allowing campers to learn from and alongside one another. Please note that Hot Glass and Blacksmithing have a minimum age requirement of 10 years old.
Theater Participation
Our theater program offers opportunities for campers at every level. Theater options are most extensive for campers attending a four-week session. Two-week campers can participate in the one-act play, cabaret, dance, and music offerings, while four-week campers may also take part in full-length musical and play productions. For theater, all campers who want to participate will receive a role.

We meet campers right at their gate. When booking your flight, you can use the following information as the unaccompanied minor chaperone:

About 2 weeks prior to your child’s flight, we will send you an updated chaperone contact.
After meeting your camper at their gate, a Med-o-lark chaperone will assist with luggage and ensure your camper boards the camp shuttle directly to Medolark.
We monitor all flights for delays.

Please label everything! Our lost and found grows quickly at camp. We encourage campers to check our lost and found daily. If your camper has left something behind at camp, we can ship your items home upon request.

We have a zero tolerance policy for bullying. Bullying is repeated, intentional behavior meant to harm, intimidate, or exclude another person often involves a real or perceived imbalance of power. If a camper is bullying another, we will call their family and ask them to leave camp.
At the same time, we recognize that normal social conflict is a natural part of growing up and forming relationships. When conflicts arise that do not meet our definition of bullying, we often give campers space to work through them, as learning to navigate social situations independently is an important part of the camp experience. Our staff are closely observing and supporting these moments, and we will step in to guide or intervene whenever campers need help resolving a situation safely and respectfully.

The deadline to add a field trip is May 1. After this, we cannot accommodate any requests.

If your camper no longer wants to go on a field trip, they are welcome to stay at camp and enjoy a Leisure Day, with a later wake-up and relaxing day to catch up on sleep, hang by the lake, read books, and work on art. Please note, field trips are non-refundable, as we have prepaid transportation and entry fees ahead of camp.

Yes, and we're proud of it! Med-o-lark welcomes counselors of all genders, sexual orientations, and backgrounds. Our counseling staff includes trans and non-binary counselors, and we deeply value the diversity they bring to our camp community. All counselors are identified by the gender identity they hold, not by assumptions or outdated records. We believe diverse role models help all campers feel seen and valued.

We have private shower stalls in every cabin. Select shower areas have privacy curtains, essentially a second curtain that creates a discrete changing space, so any camper (or counselor) can change privately if they prefer. We never require anyone to change in front of others, and we respect each person's comfort level.

Safety is our top priority. We follow a consistent "rule of 3" throughout camp: there are always either 2 campers and 1 counselor, or 2 counselors and 1 camper in any space. This protects both campers and staff, creates accountability, and ensures appropriate supervision at all times. For more information, see our safety page here.
