Catherine Martin

Catherine Martin is a Milwaukee-based metalsmith and sculptor whose work merges jewelry techniques with fiber processes to explore identity and cultural symbolism. Working across fabrication, casting, sewing, and weaving, she creates pieces that reinterpret sacred Mexican imagery, examining how objects carry memory, protection, and personal narrative. The interplay between hard and soft materials, metal and fiber, has become a way to speak about resilience, softness, and the dualities within womanhood. She has exhibited her work at the Charles Allis Art Museum and in the juried Makers! exhibitions at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where she earned recognition as the Most Promising Newcomer. Martin is the 2025 recipient of the Sparkle Scholarship, awarding her $10,000 toward tuition and a year-long internship at Kessler’s Diamonds, where she refined her technical bench skills in repair, casting, and stone setting. Catherine just completed her BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Jewelry & Metalsmithing in Spring 2026. She has taught and assisted in workshops and classroom settings throughout her time as a student. Her latest work includes a sculptural fiber and metal necklace for her senior capstone. She is so excited to embark on her teaching journey at Camp Med- O- Lark, helping campers express themselves through the craft of Metalsmithing!
