Camp Nurses
Lead health-care provider for campers and staff, overseeing medical services, health supervision, and compliance with Maine rules and ACA guidelines. You'll work with camp leadership to keep the community safe, inclusive, and healthy.
What you'll do
Provide daily care: Deliver first aid, illness and injury assessment, medication administration, and follow-up care. Treat minor conditions on-site and refer to outside providers or hospitals when needed.
Manage medications: Administer medications under physician or nurse-practitioner standing orders, and keep them in locked, secure storage as Maine requires.
Support health needs: Keep health intake forms, immunization records, and health histories complete, current, and confidential. Coordinate care plans for campers with chronic conditions such as asthma, allergies, or diabetes.
Promote wellness: Help with health education on hygiene, hydration, sun safety, mental wellness, and injury prevention, aligned with ACA Health & Wellness standards.
Run the Health Center: Oversee cleanliness, equipment, inventory, first-aid kits, and emergency supplies, and make sure the center is ready for outdoor and trip programs. Keep accurate treatment logs as Maine requires.
Ensure compliance: Serve as, or supervise, the health-supervision personnel required by Maine Rule 10-144. Keep the camp aligned with Maine youth camp licensing rules (10-144 CMR Ch. 208) and ACA standards, support accreditation efforts, and take part in Maine CDC and ACA reviews, audits, and inspections.
Prepare for emergencies: Coordinate safety plans, disaster response, and health-care drills with the Operations Director.
Communicate and support: Work with counselors, staff, and leadership on camper wellness, including mental-health and behavioral concerns. Update parents and guardians on health concerns or incidents with confidentiality and professionalism. Train Health Center Assistants on their scope and camp protocols.
